    Live Streaming

On the 22nd of May 2014 we conducted the first globally live-streamed surgical procedure using Google Glass - it was watched live by more than 13,000 people from 112 countries. The surgery was broadcast to the Virtual Medics online platform, where viewers were able to type questions that then appeared on the device’s heads-up display. This allowed the surgeon to lead an interactive teaching session covering the procedure, anatomy and pathology, by reading questions from viewers on the head-up display and answering vocally.

    Medical Education

Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry

In 2014 we launched the world's first interactive surgical teaching session, broadcasting live across the world to 14,000 students. After the following global coverage we performed numerous other live cases and were integrated into the surgical curriculum at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry. We are working on building a regular teaching programme with a global network.

    Global Health Education

Royal College of Surgeons of England

The Lancet Commission on Global Surgery revealed the shocking shortage of surgical expertise across the world.  We believe that technology can be a helping hand in the fight for 5 billion people's need for safe surgery. We are working to apply our experience and platforms in live streaming and medical education to help ensure that high quality education can be delivered regardless of location.

    Educational Work

As leaders in the use wearable technology within healthcare education we are leading the charge to determine areas that will gain value from such technologies. Having conducted the first interactive surgical teaching session using Glass to over 13,000 people in 112 countries, our program has grown from interactive broadcasts, to recordings and clinical skills. Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry is the first outside of the US to embed Glass into the curriculum. We have now received good feedback when used for reflection in both high-level postgraduate prehospital training, and undergraduate communication training. Several ongoing projects include auditing of A&E trauma calls, building an interactive library of patient assessment and examination, and teaching theatre and surgical techniques to healthcare students and professionals.

    Prehospital Communication

    London's Air Ambulance

Senior post-graduate training delivered by London's Air Ambulance is unparalleled. We have assisted in ensuring participants gain even more from their time by introducing Google Glass. Participants are now able to reflect on their practice during high fidelity scenarios designed to test them to their extreme limits. With London's Air Ambulance, we are pioneering the use and advancement of wearable technology in emergency medicine.

    Communication Training

Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry

Self-awareness when communicating with difficult patients is often clouded, but with our Digital Health Education Platform  we are able to ensure students can reflect on the minute details of their performance. They can view video from their own point of view, that of the patient and also a static camera. Peers can submit feedback that is then visually coded for easy understanding.

    Digital Health Education Platform

The Digital Health Education Platform we use is a completely unique solution to online learning in the healthcare field. We incorporate new technologies onto an exciting and engaging online platform, including our current work with Google Glass, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality. Through our extensive and insightful educational and clinical experience we provide a platform that puts healthcare students at the centre of our design. Our platform ensures a powerful, engaging and user-friendly for both learners and educators.

    Immersive Clinical Cases

    Virtual Medics

Digital learning is only effective when learning if through our point-of-view videos, and then reinforced with relevant interactive questions. Creating holistic cases and the latest in digital health education allows us to ensure students don't just learn to exams but gain an understanding of the wider context. We support the training medical students in their efforts to be clinicians.

    Clinical Skills Environment

    Virtual Medics

Wearable technology has meant that for the first time students can learn though a first person view of an experienced clinician. We combine these videos with a mobile friendly progression system to ensure that students can easily track their progress in various clinical aspects.

    Communication Skills

    Virtual Medics

Self-awareness when communicating with difficult patients is often clouded, now with out Digital Health Education Platform  we are able to ensure students can reflect on the minute details of their performance. They can view video from their own point of view, that of the patient and also a static camera. Peers can submit feedback that is then visually coded for easy understanding.

    Tailored Design

    Virtual Medics

Following a clean design philosophy we have ensured that every page a student views is encouraging learning. This minimalist approach allows students to learn without distractions, but through our online platform they are always able to quickly find further detail as required. The student is at the heart of our course design.

    Consultancy

Our unique combination of both educational and clinical experience gives us an unprecedented insight into the needs of healthcare students and professionals. We offer digital and online health education consultancy, and how best to move to new technologies in the sector. In some instances we help design the most appropriate online courses for various projects.

    Telemedicine using Wearable Technology

    Advanced Mobile Applications

Delivering high quality knowledge to remote areas is now possible, ensuring a better experience for the patient and increasing efficiency for the health service. We are working with our partners Advanced Medical Applications (Official Google Glass Partners) to test the latest in wearable telemedicine in real applications.

    Virtual Reality in Health

    Medical Realities

Combining 360 video, 3D and interactive content, The Virtual Surgeon™ puts you inside the operating theatre overseeing an operation through the eyes of the consultant surgeon. The learning program was developed for head mounted displays such as the Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR.
